What is the Wilmington FirePAC?

The Wilmington FirePAC is the political action committee of IAFF Local 1590. It is funded entirely through voluntary contributions from Wilmington Firefighters and exists to protect and advance the interests, safety, and working conditions of our members.

The FirePAC provides a unified, organized voice in the political arena — ensuring that decision-makers hear directly from the firefighters who protect this city every day.

What is the "firefighter agenda"?

The firefighter agenda is simple: putting firefighters and safety first.

Our priorities include:

  • Strong collective bargaining rights

  • Safe, adequate staffing on fire and EMS units

  • Fair wages and retirement security

  • Access to quality healthcare

  • Modern tools, training, and equipment

  • Policies that protect firefighters’ mental and physical health

  • Safe fire and EMS operations for both responders and the public

You can’t put safety first when you put firefighters last. The FirePAC ensures Wilmington’s elected leaders understand that.

Who can contribute?

All Wilmington Firefighters are encouraged to support the Wilmington FirePAC.

Members can contribute by:

  • Check

  • Electronic funds transfer

  • Payroll deduction (if offered)

  • One-time or recurring donations

Contributions are deposited into the Wilmington Police & Fire Federal Credit Union account dedicated to FirePAC operations.

Does any of my union dues fund the Wilmington FirePAC?

No.
Union dues cannot be used for political activity.
Every dollar in the FirePAC comes from voluntary contributions only, and all expenditures follow Delaware campaign finance laws.

What is the goal of the Wilmington FirePAC?

To advance the best interests of Wilmington Firefighters and Fire Marshals by supporting policies, legislation, and candidates who prioritize:

  • firefighter and EMS safety

  • adequate fire/EMS staffing

  • fair wages and benefits

  • modern apparatus, equipment, and facilities

  • strong worker protections

  • improved emergency service delivery for the public

When we advocate for better working conditions and stronger fire service resources, the entire community benefits.

Why Your Support Matters

Decisions made at City Hall and Legislative Hall directly impact your safety, your career, and your family’s security. The FirePAC ensures firefighters have:

  • a seat at the table

  • a collective voice

  • the ability to hold elected officials accountable

  • the power to support leaders who support us

When firefighters speak together, we win together — safer staffing, better benefits, improved equipment, and stronger protections.

The IAFF believes, respects and celebrates the absolute right of every IAFF member to vote for the candidate that he or she feels best represents and embraces that individual’s views and political philosophy. No one, including your union, has a right to tell you how to vote. Similarly, the IAFF will never criticize any member for his or her choice of candidate.
