About the Wilmington Firefighters Benevolent Fund
Mission
The Wilmington Firefighters Benevolent Fund exists to provide meaningful financial assistance and support to firefighters, their families, and our community. The fund helps sustain a range of charitable and goodwill initiatives — including ongoing care and stewardship of the Lakeview Road Memorial — while promoting compassion, service, and remembrance.
Our Story
This fund was created in response to the devastating Lakeview Road fire of September 2016, which tragically claimed the lives of Capt. Christopher Leach, Lt. Jerry Fickes, and Lt. Ardythe Hope. Their sacrifice remains at the heart of everything we do. The Benevolent Fund helps ensure their legacy continues through support, community engagement, and honoring fallen firefighters.
Your Impact
To everyone who has donated — thank you. Your generosity has made it possible to build, maintain, and preserve the Lakeview Road Memorial, a lasting tribute to our fallen brothers and sister.
We are now working toward the final phase of this project, which includes installing a perimeter fence and ensuring long-term upkeep of the memorial grounds. Your continued support helps us finish this work with the dignity and respect it deserves.
